Planning for the 2011 Workshop
May 3-5, 2011, Chicago, IL
NOAA's Office of Education in partnership with the NOAA Earth System Research Lab and the Museum of Science and Industry will be hosting a workshop for the Science On a Sphere® (SOS) Users Collaborative Network. The workshop will facilitate the continuation of the work done by the Network to optimize utilization of spherical display systems for providing educational messages. This will be the fourth such workshop. You can view reports from the previous workshops here.

Participation in this workshop is limited to members of the NOAA Science On a Sphere® Users Collaborative Network and invited groups who are working with the Network. The list of Network members is available here.
There is no registration fee.
The workshop will be held at the Museum of Science and Industry. Continental breakfast, lunch, and transportation between the workshop hotel (see Travel and Hotel section below) and the Museum will be provided for the three days of the workshop.

The block of rooms we had reserved at Hotel 71 has now expired. However, you may still be able to make a reservation at this hotel. Reservations: online or by phone: 312-346-7100 or 1-800-621-4005.
You can fly into either Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) or Chicago Midway Airport (MDW). To get to the hotel you can use either:
1) Chicago Transit Authority rail service. From O'Hare it is about a 48 minute ride on the blue line. From Midway, it is about a 36 minute ride on the orange line.
2) Go Express shuttle bus
MSI prepared a detailed document for "Directions to Hotel 71" to help you plan your travels. Additional information and directions on how to get to Hotel 71 are available at: http://www.hotel71.com/map-en.html.
Travel between Hotel 71 and MSI will be provided by American Sightseeing Chicago / Chicago Sightseeing Company, Inc. On each day of the workshop, buses will leave from Hotel 71 promptly at 8:00 AM. Information on return trips to Hotel 71 will be provided in the final agenda and each day at the workshop. The folks at MSI have kindly created lists of "Fun Things to do in Chicago" and "Restaurants Near Hotel 71" documents to help you plan your stay.
The deadline to request travel support has passed.
Limited partial travel support was available for up to one person per U.S.-based Network member institution that does not currently have an award from NOAA providing funds for travel to this workshop. The list of all network members is available here. Federal employees are not eligible to apply for travel support.
The travel support consists of up to four nights stay at the workshop hotel. Travelers are responsible for all other costs
