Coastal Management Fellowship

Program Description:

The Coastal Management Fellowship was established in 1996 to provide on-the-job education and training opportunities in coastal resource management and policy for postgraduate students and to provide project assistance to state coastal zone management programs. The program matches postgraduate students with state coastal zone programs to work on projects proposed by the state and selected by the fellowship sponsor, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Coastal Services Center.

National Academy of Science/National Research Council Post Doc Fellowship Program

Program Description:
The mission of the National Research Council's Research Associateship Programs is to provide advanced training for highly qualified postdoctoral and visiting scientists, while enhancing the research conducted in federal laboratories. This mission is accomplished by recruiting, and competitively selecting, postdoctoral and senior scientists for research awards in the laboratories of more than 30 federal sponsors.

The Great Lakes Commission-Sea Grant Fellowship

Program Description:

This program provides an opportunity for graduate students to work with members of the Great Lakes science, policy and information/education communities to advance the environmental quality and sustainable economic development goals of the Great Lakes states. The fellow will contribute to and benefit from research coordination and policy analysis activities. This program is sponsored by the Great Lakes Commission, the NOAA National Sea Grant College Program, and the Great Lakes Sea Grant Network.

Award: The Great Lakes Commission-Sea Grant Fellowship award is $40,000 over a one-year period. Of this amount, $34,000 is provided to each Fellow for compensation. The remaining $6,000 will be used to cover health insurance for the Fellow and support fellowship-related travel. During the fellowship, the Great Lakes Commission may provide supplemental funds for work-related travel by the Fellow. The fellowship is managed by the Great Lakes Commission in consultation with the National Sea Grant Office (NSGO).
Dates of Opportunity: The length of assignment is for one full year and is nonrenewable. The inclusive dates of the official fellowship are June 1, 2006 until May 31, 2007; however, these dates are flexible to accommodate academic semester or recipient needs.

John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship Program

Program Description:
This program provides an opportunity for graduate students to work with hosts in the legislative branch, executive branch, or appropriate associations/institutions located in the Washington, D.C. area. Established in 1979, the fellowship provides a unique educational experience to students who have an interest in ocean, coastal and Great Lakes resources and in the national policy decisions affecting those resources. The program is sponsored by the NOAA National Sea Grant College Program.
Application Deadlines: February of each year
Award: The local Sea Grant program receives and administers the overall award of $41,500 per student on behalf of each Fellow selected from their program. Of this amount, the local Sea Grant program provides $33,000 to each Fellow for stipend and living expenses (per diem). $7,000 will be used to cover mandatory health insurance for the Fellow and moving expenses; any remaining funds shall be used during the Fellowship year, first to satisfy academic degree- related activities, and second for Fellowship-related activities. Finally, up to $1,500 can be used to cover Placement week costs. Indirect costs are not allowable from the Federal funds either for the Fellowships or for any costs associated with the Fellowships, including more than $1,500 budgeted for placement week. However, these costs, can be denoted as matching funds. During the fellowship, the host may provide supplemental funds for work related travel by the fellow.
Dates of Opportunity: The length of assignment is one-year (non-renewable). The inclusive dates of the official fellowship are February 1- January 31; however, these dates can be slightly adjusted to accommodate academic semester needs.

National Estuarine Research Reserve Systems Graduate Research Fellowship Program

Program Description:
This program offers graduate students the opportunity to address scientific questions of local, regional and national significance by conducting research within the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS). Research projects are based on the reserves' local needs, the reserve system's national priorities and the students' interests. This program is sponsored by the NOAA National Estuarine Research Reserve system.
Application Deadlines: The application deadline is November 1, 2008, for consideration as a 2009 fellow.
Award: Fellows receive a stipend of $20,000 per year.  Fellowships may be funded for up to three years.

NMFS - Sea Grant Joint Graduate Fellowship Program in Population Dynamics and Marine Resource Economics

NOAA's National SeaGrant Officeand NOAA Fisheries established a Graduate Fellowship Program inpopulation dynamics and marine resource economics. The fellowship isfor Ph.D. students who are interested in either of these twodisciplines.

Award Amount: The award for each Fellowship, contingent upon the availability of Federal funds, will be a cooperative agreement of $38,500 per year. This award is for salary (stipend), living expense (per diem), tuition and travel as determined by the Sea Grant program facilitating the award. The travel costs of an annual Fellows meeting (at rotating locations) will be provided by the granting agencies. Indirect costs are not allowable for the fellowship or any costs associated with the fellowship.
Dates of Fellowship: Population Dynamics Fellowship awards are for a three year period;  Marine Resource Economics fellowship awards are for a two year period. The fellowship year begins on June 1.
